Sarah Weakley
Staff Writer
Discipline: Social Policy
Research Interests: Young people's interaction with welfare state programmes in the transition to adulthood, currently. More generally, I'm always interested in research on poverty reduction and social mobility – in particular how quantitative data can assist our understanding of both at all levels of government.
If you were a box of cereal what would you be and why: Lightly sweetened Cheerios - a substantial breakfast that is near-universally loved. A girl can dream.
What did you want to be when you grew up: A backup singer for Earth, Wind & Fire. There were a lot of things wrong with this dream, the most notable being that I was born nearly a decade after their heyday. The second is that I cannot sing well. But this looks like the best job ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=god7hAPv8f0
Where are you right now: In the spare room of my flat in Glasgow after finally clearing out the cardboard boxes (after a year) to make myself a little office. I'm also obviously now listening to Earth, Wind & Fire.
Tell us something about another staff writer: I've only spent a little bit of time with Katherine Baxter, but I feel like our Western-U.S. kinship reflects well on me, given how brilliant and nice she is.
This is a story of public administration gone horribly, horribly wrong in Flint, Michigan.
